We were running Mumble and I was also running streaming software and had Firefox open in the background to boot.NVIDIA today released GeForce 260.89 driver suite. I was able to connect to my friend's game (via Steam invitation - haven't tried to see if I could see global games or anything, but I suspect there wouldn't be many at random), and have been able to play since. Ridiculous as it sounds, everything worked. I left the permission alone without asking, effectively denying it while I decided to just give it a shot anyway. I'd read the curious posts saying to start up without net connectivity, but that wasn't something I'd wanted to try before because it defeated the point of it (got it specifically for multiplayer). I got to verifying my game integrity, which caused it to have to reinstall, which caused the permission to pop up again. I tried all the other fixes I saw and was pointed to here and elsewhere. I didn't even connect it to net permissions since I had also tweaked a video setting in-game at the same time (first load, after all). I tabbed out, gave it that permission, and back in and hey game crashed. When I first loaded up and sat at the menu, no problem, because my firewall was asking permission for the game to connect to the net. My solution was counterintuitive: Permanently deny permission for this game to access the net. I just got this game this week and had this problem.
